Mullumbimby Farmers Market
G’day, Nature Lovers
I love farmers markets, I think they are rock on so many levels. Visiting the Mullum Farmers Market on a Friday, is one of my favourite things to do. I also love taking visitors there and collecting yummy produce for a picnic lunch on our Hippy Trail Hinterland Tour.
So why do I love Farmers Markets so much? Farmers markets often have organic or non-certified organic produce. You are putting your money directly in the pockets of the farmers. You eat local & seasonal produce. Its a great meeting point for people you know. There is often wonderful buskers playing music. They support local community groups.
Why on earth anyone would go to a supermarket, with florescent lights, muzak, “fresh produce” that has been chemically ripened, putting your money in the pockets of big corporations who are pushing farmers to the brink.
And I just happen to live in the middle of Farmers Market Central and so am spoiled for choice for weekly farmers markets.

We are also lucky in the Northern Rivers of NSW, that we have so much great fresh local produce, such as; bananas, peaches, nectarines, avocados, lemons, limes, mandarins, watermelon, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, broccoli, cauliflower, pumpkin, ginger, turmeric, honey, olives, macadamia, pecans, coffee, tea, beef, dairy, pork, oysters to name but a few.
When travelling around I always find out where the local farmers markets are and get some nice fresh, local food. Where is your favourite farmers market?
Enjoy your journey
